Elastic Big Data Processing with Myriad and Mesos. ETL Use Cases and Hadoop

Synchronoss, The Academy Building, 42 Pearse Street, Dublin 2

The Hadoop User Group will be meeting at Synchronoss for two great presentations from Bryan Quinn of Synchronoss and Michael Hausenblas of Mesosphere discussing the following agenda:

Importing & Exporting Data to and from Hadoop by Bryan Quinn, Analytics Architect with Synchronoss
Processing data in Hadoop is all well and good but how do you get data into and out of Hadoop. In this presentation Bryan describes a number of ETL use cases he has used over the past 4 years on their production clusters. Use cases involving writing data to and retrieving data from HDFS, RDBMS, HBase & MongoDB will be described in this presentation.

Elastic Big Data Processing by Michael Hausenblas, Developer and Cloud Advocate with Mesosphere
There are many distributed compute and storage systems in the Hadoop ecosystem. From good old MapReduce to Spark, Drill as well as HDFS, Kafka, Cassandra and so on. How can we benefit from all of them in a straightforward and operationally simple way? Enter Apache Mesos and the Datacenter Operating System (DCOS). This talk will show how easy it is to install and use the above mentioned frameworks along with how to combine the YARN-based world with Mesos, using the new Apache Myriad project.

The event Hashtag is #HUGIreland and new members are warmly welcomed to join veteran big data professionals and enthusiasts of HUG Ireland for a great evening of talks related to Hadoop.

    Registration is here.

If we address quality in terms of test cases passed we have lost half our audience and have little to say to the top table. What effects quality within the SDLC are the influences beyond the SDLC. Believing that culture is the game changer, Fergal will explore how changing the mind-set of your organisation has more impact on quality than any process improvement initiatives, and may be a precursor to it.

Building a conspiracy of excellence amongst the dedicated few, can be understood and supported by senior management and becomes an unstoppable force for quality.

    Certified Cloud Security Professional Training

Espion Training Centre Sandyford, Dublin 18

FREE iPAD MINI – Pre loaded with course materials

Backed by the two leading non-profits focused on cloud and information security, the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) and (ISC)², the CCSP credential denotes professionals with deep-seated knowledge and competency derived from hands-on experience with information security and cloud computing. CCSPs help you achieve the highest standard for cloud security expertise and enable your organisation to benefit from the power of cloud computing while keeping sensitive data secure. The CCSP credential reflects deeper knowledge derived from hands-on information security and cloud computing experience. It validates practical know-how applicable to those professionals whose day-to-day responsibilities involve cloud security architecture, design, operations, and service orchestration.

As powerful as cloud computing is for the organisation, understanding its information security risks and mitigation strategies is critical. Legacy approaches are inadequate, and organizations need competent, experienced professionals equipped with the right cloud security knowledge and skills to be successful. CCSP defines the qualifications and experience necessary to competently secure cloud services. Ultimately, it provides a new benchmark for cloud security knowledge and competence, and is viewed as the most reliable indicator of overall proficiency in cloud security.

The CCSP is most appropriate for those whose day-to-day responsibilities involve procuring, securing, and managing cloud environments or purchased cloud services and ideally suited to professionals working in positions such as, but not limited to:

    – Enterprise Architect

(ISC)2 Official Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) CBK Training

Irish Computer Society, 87-89 Pembroke Road, Dublin 4

    – Security Administrator
    – Systems Engineer
    – Security Architect
    – Security Consultant
    – Security Engineer
    – Security Manager

    Reinventing the Testing Role

    18:15

ICS, 87/89 Pembroke Road, Dublin 4

SoftTest Ireland in association with the ISA Software Skillnet and the Irish Computer Society would like to announce the following event:

Speaker: Jon Bach, Quality Evangelist at eBay
    Date/Time: Tuesday March 8th 6pm registration for 6.15pm start
    Title: “Reinventing the Testing Role”
Location: ICS, 87/89 Pembroke Road, Dublin 4
    Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/dublin-event-reinventing-the-testing-role-tickets-21828329120

Whether it’s called “Agile Development” or “DevOps”, you’re likely using some method to produce software. That means it will need to be tested. However, popular development methods today do not usually emphasize the word “testing”. It’s been replaced by the word “engineering” to emphasize automated tools that do testing. But tools don’t do testing. Tools aid humans who have to design and execute a test strategy. The problem is, it’s often the tools that get the credit, and you’re expected to master these tools. Furthermore, when the word “testing” is used, it’s often mentioned as if it’s an obsolete 18th century craft. Better call it “automation”, else people will look at you funny. Call it “quality engineering” and you have everyone’s attention. If you feel the same way, let’s talk about reframing what testing is.

In this presentation, Jon talks about his reinvention from Test Manager to Quality Evangelist in his 5 years at eBay. Reinvention does not necessarily mean transformation. It means achieving deep understanding and ownership over your practices and motivations. It means knowing why you do what you do, and being able to explain it to others. Let’s talk how we can do this.

    Takeaways:
    • What are the meanings and purposes of roles on projects?
    • What are the potential roles of skilled testers in projects, no matter the job title?
    • How can you create and maintain a testing culture?
    Bio:
Jon Bach is a Quality Evangelist at eBay. That means he looks for patterns and practices meant to improve developer productivity while also helping teams understand overall product health. He’s the younger brother of famed software consultant James Bach, who showed him what testing was all about in 1995. Since then, he’s made a career in software testing, focusing on the thinking, craftsmanship, and fun of finding problems. His blog archive is called “Tested” and can be found at https://jonbox.wordpress.com/

    ZeroDays CTF

    10am

    The Generator, Smithfield, Dublin

The Institute of Technology Blanchardstown is delighted to host ZeroDays CTF (www.ZeroDays.ie), a cyber-security challenge, which will take place at the Generator, Smithfield, Dublin.

The event was established to allow Irish third level students develop their information security skills and techniques in a fun and controlled environment through a number of exciting ‘capture-the-flag’ security challenges with the winning team crowned Ireland’s National Cyber Security Champions.

Throughout the day, teams will use their own background and skillsets to solve technical challenges, all of which will have some link to the fun Father Ted theme, capturing points as they work their way through the puzzles and problems. Domain challenges will range from Web application vulnerabilities, social engineering and exploitation to forensics, reverse engineering and cryptography, as well as a couple of treasure-hunts around the Smithfield area.

The inaugural ZeroDays event, which was the first of its kind in Ireland specifically aimed at third level students, was held last year and was a huge success with over a hundred students from all over Ireland taking part and making ZeroDays the largest cyber security challenge of its type in Ireland.

OrientDB: Unlock the Value of Document Data Relationships. Apache Spark & GraphX

Bank of Ireland, 1 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2

HUG Ireland’s March event is themed this time round on Graph Databases and Big Data with an exploration of OrientDB and a use case along with Apache Spark and GraphX.

The full agenda is a follows:

OrientDB: Unlock the Value of Document Data Relationships by Fabrizio Fortino

In this presentation Fortino will cover the following topics:

    a) A general introduction of graph databases and OrientDB,

    b) Why connected data has more value than just data,

c)How to “have fun” with OrientDB combining documents with graphs via SQL,

    d) A use case on how OrientDB has helped to raise standards in Irish Public Office.

On OrientDB: NOSQL document databases provide an elegant way to deal with data in different shapes enabling developers to create better and faster products quickly. The main goal of these systems is to find the most efficient solution to manage data itself.
With the Big Data Explosion we need to deal with a myriad of highly interconnected information. The challenge now is not only on how to store data but on how to manage, analyse, traverse and use your data within the context of relationships. Graph databases shine at maintaining highly connected data and is the fastest growing category in database management systems: 2014 registered an increase of 250% in terms of adoption and Forrester Research predicts that more than a quarter of enterprises will be using graphs by 2017.

OrientDB combines more than one NOSQL model offering the unique flexibility of modelling data in the form of either documents, or graphs, while incorporating object oriented programming as a way of encaps ulating relationships.

Fortino is an experienced programmer and OSS enthusiast with a quite heterogeneous set of interests including web development, machine learning algorithms, graph databases, Big Data. OrientDB contributor since 2011.

Introduction to Apache Spark GraphX by Eddie Baggot.

Using GraphX to detect and visualises financial crime networks, using algorithms like PageRank and new features like GraphFrames.

In this presentation Eddie will cover:

    1) Introduction to Apache Spark with GraphX

    2) GraphX Visualisation for Financial Crime

    3) DataScience Applications in Fighting Financial Crime Networks

    4) GraphX and GraphFrames, New Tools for the job

Brave New World: Living and working in a machine age

    12-2pm

ICS, 87-89 Pembroke Road, Dublin 4

In the past year we’ve seen some astounding developments in technology ; retailers’ robots automating global supply chains, supercomputers defeating humans in complex games, powerful regimes making and repelling ‘cyber-attacks’. How though, will technological developments shape everyday life for most people and how do we influence the role it plays? Can we influence the role technology plays – in our society , our economy…?

ICS members will discuss the changes that we can anticipate in how we live and work in the coming decade from developments in today’s most active fields of data science and information technology: machine learning and automation, robotics, ubiquitous sensor fabric and the continued acceleration in computing power that cloud delivers. In light of these we explore the impact of these development on how we’ll make a living, how we’ll spend our leisure time, how decisions are in public and private enterprise. We examine the economic, regulatory and social conditions that need to prevail for these changes to come about, who is to benefit from them and explore the role of the ICT professions in influencing how best technology is used in Ireland.

    Speaker: Stephen Moffatt

Stephen Moffatt is an IT architect, working with global customers of IBM to design the next generations of IT-based business services. Stephen advises business and IT leaders of public and private enterprise on using analytical, mobile, social and cloud technologies to deliver IT services that adapt to their changing competitive, regulatory and economic environments. He lends insight into how enterprises can exploit the masses of information generated every day within enterprises and on the internet – by better understanding their customers, partners and employees and making better quality business decisions, faster. Prior to this role Stephen has held leadership positions with IBM’s consulting, software and systems businesses as an IT strategist, architect and specialist. Stephen is a Fellow of the Irish Computer Society and in his spare time lectures business strategy on Masters Programmes in IT.

This event is open only to members of the Leaders Network and members of the Irish Computer Society who are of professional level or higher.

Talk #1: So far, the talk content is a surprise and with Ted, it guarantees not to disappoint! Ted Dunning, Chief Architect, MapR

Talk #2: Angling For Insights at Big Fish Games. David Darden, Director of BI Engineering, Big Fish Games

Data is eating the world… but what does that mean for a company that is data driven, can’t afford an army of developers and PhD’s, and where (your) data isn’t actually the product? We’ll talk about how we’ve used data to help make our company more successful (and maybe some missteps along the way). We’ll start with an overview of the Big Fish Games approach to building a Logical Data Warehouse (which includes Netezza, Hadoop, Tableau, and various other technologies), organizational approach, and how we use data and technology to make an impact on the business. We’ll then move in to a ‘choose your own adventure’ style presentation where we’ll dive in to areas the audience is interested in (aww… you were probably hoping for a bunch of slides, weren’t you?). Topics may include what we use for query federation, the different types of data we capture, how we approach ‘BI as a service’ internally, integr ating data across multiple platforms, and our approach to democratizing data across the organization. Feel free to post anything you’d like to see as a topic in the comments section.

Talk #3: Dataiku Data Science Studio for faster and smarter car parking, Vincent de Stoecklin at Dataiku

Dataiku will present a client use case detailing all the steps from raw data to innovative data product. By working with DSS, Parkeon (leader of parking payment solutions) developed Path to Park, combining internal data assets with external data sources to create a predictive application that helps city-dwellers find parking spots faster.

    – Initial challenge and existing data assets

    – End-to-end data science project – from design to production

    – Tools, people and processes – moving toward a data driven organisation

Talk #4: Apache Arrow: A New Era of Columnar In-Memory Analytics, Tomer Shiran, Co-Founder and CEO at Dremio

Apache Arrow introduces a new era of columnar in-memory analytics. Arrow can accelerate Big Data analysis by 10-100x, while also enabling users to combine multiple systems and programming languages without the traditional serialization/deserialization overhead. Over a dozen open source projects are already on board, including Drill, Ibis, Impala, Kudu, Pandas, Parquet and Spark. In this talk we’ll provide an overview of Apache Arrow, including both the technology and several example applications.

Talk #5: Apache Flink 1.0: Real-World Use Cases, Slim Baltagi, Director Big Data Engineering at Capital One

This talk explains how Apache Flink 1.0 announced on March 8th, 2016 by the Apache Software Foundation, marks a new era of Big Data analytics and in particular Real-Time streaming analytics. The talk will map Flink’s capabilities to real-world use cases that span multiples verticals such as: Financial Services, Healthcare, Advertisement, Oil and Gas, Retail and Telecommunications.

In this talk, you learn more about:

    1. What is Apache Flink Stack?

    2. The movement from Batch Analytics to Streaming Analytics

    3. Key Differentiators of Apache Flink for Streaming Analytics

    4. Real-World Use Cases with Flink for Streaming Analytics

    5. Who is using Flink?

    6. Where do you go from here?

    Talk #6

Drilling into Data with Apache Drill, Tug Grall, Technical Evangelist at MapR

Apache Drill is a next-generation SQL engine for Hadoop and NoSQL. Its unique schema-free approach enables self-service data exploration with the agility that organizations need in this new era of rapidly growing and evolving data.

In this talk, based on demonstrations, you will understand the key features and architecture of Apache Drill. You will also see how to get started with Drill; and start query, using SQL, various data sources such as Hive, Parquet, Avro, and NoSQL (HBase, MapR-DB, Mongo and more) but also more complex data structure stored in JSON documents.

You will learn also how you can extend Drill to create user defined function that brings your SQL on Everything to the next level.

    Scaling Up Genomics with Spark

    6pm

Bank of Ireland, 1 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2

This meeting of the Hadoop User Group is a Data Science v Big Data Stack themed night with Apache Spark taking a leading role alongside great data analytics in a must do event for all Big Data practitioners and enthusiasts alike.

    Agenda:

Scaling Up Genomics with Spark by Sean Owen, director of data science, Cloudera
It’s amazing that our genome so completely and uniquely encodes each of us with a simple 4-protein code, like a file. More amazingly, we’re so similar that we can build a reference map of human genomes and reason about commonalities. Genomics has taken off in the last two decades driven largely by advances in computing; the work of mapping the genome is incredibly data and compute intensive. This talk will briefly introduce the problem of genomics and existing home-grown efforts to bring ‘Big Data’ technology to solve it. It will compare these with the separate rise of technologies like Apache Hadoop and Spark, and how these ideas are helping genomics scale up even further..

Understanding Your Customers Using Public Data by Michael Crawford, founder, Applied AI
A data science use case! We were involved in a project to model the quality of a large life insurer’s customer base and wanted to see if socio-economic factors were a useful predictor. Experian provide this type of information but it was prohibitively expensive to use for our purposes (200k+ customers). We took a look at the Irish census data and reckoned we could have a crack at doing what Experian do ourselves. We also thought that it would be a fun and we’d probably learn new stuff along the way.

Why Auditing is a Must Have Element in Your Security Strategy

    09:00 – 13:00

Alexander Hotel, 41-47 Fenian Street, Dublin 2.

Lack of visibility into who’s making changes to critical IT systems or who has access to what, creates blind spots within your IT environment. System auditing allows you to see how often changes are made, which users are making suspicious changes, what those changes are, which systems are affected, and more.

From Active Directory and Group Policy, to Exchange, SharePoint, SQL, VMware and File Servers Netwrix has a comprehensive range of change reporting and alerting capabilities. Change auditing is critical to maintaining a secure IT infrastructure. Knowing exactly who made what change, when and where, is something auditors look for during security and compliance audits. It also makes for good IT management practice. Netwrix Auditor 8.0 now supports Office 365, EMC and NetApp auditing.

Registration will start at 09.00 with tea/coffee facilities available. Light refreshments and lunch will also be provided.

Load Testing and Performance – Dublin Meetup

Cafe En Seine Dawson Street Dublin 2

Website interaction is an increasingly important element of all our lives. Whether it is retail, business to business, health or interaction with government services, we all depend on websites and applications delivering – quickly and consistently.

However, traditional testing tools don’t go far enough. They give over simple results – often based on highly complex set up. They will tell you if your site is up and what the response times are but they don’t tell you what the user experience is. Do all of the functions work? What happens when loads vary without warning? How does the test actually compare to real user interactions and real browser usage (as opposed to simulated)?

JAR has created a suite of solutions, led by JAR:Load, to deliver the first new-generation load and testing capability that overcomes all of the problems faced by previous generation offerings.

Join us for an evening of presentations, Q&A and networking. Our event is free to attend and will include refreshments.

Test Triangle and JAR Technologies jointly organizing this meetup event.

SoftTest Ireland and ISA Software Skillnet presents Iain Bright

    12:30

Clayton Hotel Belfast, 22 Ormeau Avenue, Belfast BT2 8HS

Iain Bright has been testing for 15 years. He started in a UAT team in the financial sector before moving to Ireland. Since then he has worked on a variety of projects in different sectors both as a System and User Acceptance Tester and is currently a Test Lead at Renaissance Reinsurance in Dublin. Overtime, his approach to testing has evolved to be based on two fundamentals: problem solving and aiming to provide a high quality service to his customers. This allows him to be flexible, listen to his customers’ requirements and provide the best testing solution to the challenge at hand.

    Presentation description:

Psychology – the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context.

Question – a sentence worded or expressed so as to elicit information

A key skill in testing is asking questions. As testers, we should be asking questions about the requirements/design/system at every opportunity we can: Who will be using it? Where? What happens if…? How does it work? How should it work? Why…?

These are all good questions, but the focus of them is to get information about the product being tested. Maybe we should be asking other questions? Not about the product, but about ourselves and of our peers and colleagues. And not to just elicit information either, but also elicit a desired response or behavioural change.

As testers, we sometimes find ourselves trying to deal with difficult situations and/or people. The natural response is try and find a solution to the problem or overcome the objections. Instead, maybe we should be asking more questions to challenge the problem faced until an agreement is reached?

What questions should we be asking of ourselves, peers and colleagues, and how?

    Tickets are available here.

EU Data Protection Reform – What are the Implications for Business?

    Online

Join Espion and their cloud partner Skyhigh Networks as they examine the EU Data Protection Reforms and explore how the new regulations will effect business.

On 14th April 2016 The European Parliament gave final approval to the enactment of the new EU Data Protection legislation. This follows four years of deliberation and debate on these regulations. The reforms will replace the 1995 Data Protection directive that was devised before Internet use became widespread.

In this webinar, Data Protection experts break these regulations down into plain English.
Asking the question: What do the regulations mean for business?

    What’s Covered?
    1. Background to the GDPR
    2. What the GDPR will mean for Regulatory compliance – how the new regulations will affect the application of Data Protection considerations across Europe
    3. How local regulation will be subject to a higher scrutiny
    4. What the GDPR means for the individual privacy rights of EU citizens
    5. What the GDPR means for companies who process personal data of EU users – what are the initial areas to focus on?

    Who Should Attend?
The scope of these reforms is very wide ranging and applies to any company that processes the data of EU citizens.

This Webinar is relevant to – and will benefit – all those involved in the processing, storage and management of personal information.

    The Speakers
    – Gavin D’Alton, Senior Manager Information Governance, Espion

    Iasa World Conference

    ICS Building, Ballsbridge

This year’s Iasa World Conference is coming to Dublin. It’s a great opportunity for like-minded IT architects to discuss the challenges of the industry in a global context.

The theme for this year’s conference is The Art and Science of Digital Architecture. We want our audience and our speakers to focus on the future and the great potential IT architects have. Privacy in the Digital Age: Is it time for a new paradigm?

    3-5pm
Trinity Long Room Hub, Trinity College Dublin

The ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technology will host a public lecture by Dr Jyn Schultze-Melling (Facebook’s director for privacy policy in Europe) and Dr TJ McIntyre (lecturer in Law at UCD and chairman of Digital Rights Ireland) entitled Privacy in the Digital Age: Is it Time for a New Paradigm?

Dr Jyn Schultze-Melling will present and explain Facebook’s report A New Paradigm for Personal Data. This is the final report from Facebook’s roundtable series about how to create a positive and sustainable future for personal data – for the benefit of individuals, organisations and societies. It reflects the thoughts of 175 experts across 21 roundtables in 11 cities. It concludes that a sustainable personal data environment is one in which users can feel confident, and in which the value exchange is fair, so that the benefits of data are maximised while the harms are minimised.

TJ will respond to the report, setting out a civil liberties perspective on the gathering and use of personal data and critically examining the assumptions underlying arguments for data sharing with his talk Why Online Privacy is not Dead – Yet.

Workshop: Get your business online in a day

    Superpixel Labs, Galway

You’ve got the business idea, the ambition, and the energy. You don’t have the website (or a pile of cash). How do you get your business online?

You come to the Get Your Business Online in a Day workshop in Galway this August. You’ll walk in in the morning with only your laptop, and walk out in the afternoon with a website that will start working for your business that very day – no tech skills required.

Here’s how it will work: The first part of the day will be taken by Teri Morris of the acclaimed Website in an Hour. By lunch, you’ll have set up your very own website with a tool called Strikingly. Make no mistake – you’ll have set it up, which means you’ll know how to manage it and make changes when necessary, no developers or designers required.

After a break for lunch, digital strategist Niamh Lynch takes over. She’ll show you how to effectively and painlessly incorporate things like blogging, social media, and SEO into your online strategy. She’ll discuss how to best maintain and update your website and look at how to get it immediately working towards your business goals. By the end of this session, you’ll know what to put on your website and why.

After a much-needed coffee break, Teri and Niamh will come together to round everything off, answering questions and providing advice.

Charles Ess is Professor of Media Studies in the Department of Media & Communication at the University of Oslo, Norway. itSMF How do you deliver consistent quality of IT Services to your customers over 150 Countries?

    9-11am

ICS, 87-89 Pembroke Road, Dublin 4

ESP is a world class global IT solutions business with headquarters in the UK, supported by regional service delivery hubs in Hong Kong, Trinidad, Singapore, Colombia and Guam.

They provide flexible 24/7 service desk, onsite and field services in over 150 countries worldwide and are a respected market leader with an enviable and loyal customer base of global, national and local businesses

As ESP has grown and their markets expand, the challenge thrown down to them has been to consistently deliver a quality service across a dynamically changing customer base, which by its nature has meant extending their services across multiple countries.

Through a combination of ESP staff and a network of like minded partner companies, they need to deliver the same service to their customers whether its being delivered in the UK, Mexico, Laos or Guatemala. The customer experience, touch points and controls need to be consistent and they need to be able to ensure the same quality of service.

So the gauntlet that was thrown down five years ago was how to achieve this, whilst also facing the fact that the company was growing at a rate of 20% per year and constantly evolving its service offerings.

The answers to the ‘how’ will hopefully be answered during the presentation, but a combination of best practice, investment in great toolsets and people, continuous reviewing and improving plus a large amount of hard work and commitment from the team has meant they have been able to rise to the challenge.

Espion: Adopting a multi-layered approach to ransomware defence

    Conrad Hotel, Dublin 2

In this seminar Espion and cloud partner Zscaler will provide practical advice on how organisations should be developing and executing a multi-layered defensive strategy to protect their business against the rising threat of ransomware.

A ransomware infection can be devastating to an organization and recovery can be a difficult, extensive process without expert advice. An overwhelming amount of businesses have fallen victim in recent months, facing loss of sensitive information, disruption to regular operations, financial losses as well as often irreversible reputational damage.

Espion advises organisations to take a multi-layered approach to their defensive strategy; from raising security awareness across their organization to leveraging the cloud to apply extensive overarching system defences – a one stop shop solution is not sufficient.

    Overview:
    – The evolution of ransomware – how it has evolved, the current threat landscape and why organizations need to act now
    – How organisations fall victim – the most common infection methods examined
    – What a ransomware attack looks like – including real life examples
    – Ten steps to take immediately following a suspected incident
    – A multi-layered approach – how to prevent incidents through a multi-layered defence
    – The people factor – implementing security awareness across your entire organisation

The seminar will be followed by a panel Q&A session.

    Speakers:
    – Chris Hodson M.Inst.ISP, director of information security EMEA, Zscaler
    – Conor Gavin, lead consultant, Espion – a BSI Professional Services Company

SIP – Give yourself a global voice by making communication simple

    10am

    Webinar

Let IDC and BT unlock the secrets to achieve truly successful SIP – (Session Initiation Protocol) enabled global communications.

Businesses are rising to the challenge of market globalisation by becoming stateless – selling streamlined products and services to an increasingly integrated global economy.

How do businesses with a global footprint simplify and optimise communications? Enterprise voice – enabled by SIP – remains a critical business service, as well as a vital stepping-stone to improving employee collaboration and creating efficient operations.

To connect people across your organisation (regardless of region), you need to make the most of SIP. And ‘getting it right’ is essential to your organisation’s efforts to be more competitive, control costs and bring a distributed international workforce together.

It all starts with your network. Consolidating SIP enterprise voice services with your IP data network gives you the opportunity to standardise your communications and provide connectivity that’s resilient, flexible and easier to scale to achieve the following objectives:

    – Reducing the complexity and cost of global communication
    – Extending your global reach to new markets
    – Increasing the productivity of your workforce through unified communications and collaboration

In our webinar we’ll show you how to:
    – Use Global SIP to create a future-proof network that gives you greater control over services and
    – Reduces your costs
    – Make the most of SIP by consolidating voice across multiple sites on a global WAN
    – Avoid the common mistakes organisations make when rolling out SIP trunks globally

Jason Andersson, Network Analyst, IDC Enterprise.
Jason will help you understand how a global application of enterprise SIP can help you on your digital transformation journey – as well as how up-to-date voice services will benefit your business. He’ll tackle some of the infrastructure issues many IT departments struggle with, while showing you how to create the ideal strategy for SIP trunk adoption.

Jan Riechers, BT General Manager, Global Voice Services.
As BT’s global expert in SIP and WAN technologies, Jan will take you through BT’s network experience, international footprint and end-to-end range of services.

    Customer Case Studies
We’ll show you how two global organisations have delivered significant cost savings and better quality service – all by bringing their worldwide communications onto a common platform. You’ll see how our customers got their networks ready for unified communications and collaboration, and how they’ve improved communications by working with a one-stop global provider with decades of experience.

Reality and illusion in EU data transfer regulation post-Schrems

    1-2.30pm

Trinity Long Room Hub, Trinity College Dublin

In Schrems v. Data Protection Commissioner, the Court of Justice of the European Union invalidated the EU-US Safe Harbour arrangement allowing personal data to be transferred to the US. The judgment is a landmark in the Court’s data protection case law, and illustrates the tension between the high level of legal protection for data transfers in EU law and the illusion of protection in practice.

The judgment has undermined the logical consistency of the other legal bases for data transfer besides the Safe Harbour, and reactions to it have largely been based on formalism or data localisation measures that are unlikely to provide real protection.

Schrems also illustrates how many legal disagreements concerning data transfers are essentially political arguments in disguise. The EU and the US have since agreed on a replacement for the Safe Harbour (the EU-US Privacy Shield), the validity of which will likely be tested in the Court. It is crucial for data transfer regulation to go beyond formalistic measures and legal fictions, in order to move regulation of data transfers in EU law from illusion to reality.

    UPRISE Festival

    09:30 – 18:30

    RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin 2

Europe’s Biggest Tech Festival ‘UPRISE’ comes to Dublin’s RDS

Dublin City Council’s, Economic Development & Enterprise Office is proud to support Europe’s biggest Start-Up/Tech Festival ‘UPRISE’.

150 crazy start-ups, 15 workshops, buskers, games, music, DJ’s, entertainment, jobs and much more, will provide the perfect environment to allow for networking and great conversation on technology and development.

This unique festival, born in Amsterdam, puts people first and technology second, promising no public wifi for the 2,000 attendees. There will be no big guest speakers just 150 innovative young companies, practical workshops and interactive panels including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Salesforce, Freeland.com and SEEDrs.

The festival also adds Irish buskers and food stalls to a relaxed environment of CEO’s and talent, helping to make new business ideas more approachable, investable and connected.

An epic start-up Pitch Battle will see 6 international start-ups pit their strengths against 6 Irish based start-ups, after local heats were held in Europe and the USA in earlier this year.  To a frenzy of audience questions, answers and reactions, the audience will decide which company wins (no judging panel required!).  Dublin City Local Enterprise Office (LEO) will award a prize fund of €5,000 to the winning entrepreneur.

“As Chair of the Economic Development and Enterprise SPC for Dublin City Council, I am delighted to see Uprise 4 taking place in Dublin for the First time. The Start-up community is critical for the continued success of the Dublin City Economy. We are eager to support initiatives that create employment and develop a strong collaborative and sustainable enterprise eco-system for Dublin”, said Dublin City Councillor Paul McAuliffe.

Greg Swift, Head of Enterprise and Economic Development, Dublin City Council said, “We are delighted to be supporting the UPRISE Festival 2016 here in Dublin.  The move will no doubt showcase the success of Dublin as being a hotbed of activity and support for emerging Start-Ups. The doors of the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Dublin City are always open to those thinking of starting their own business or to those already in business but in need of extra support.”

As founder Paul O’Connell said ‘There is no better place than Ireland to strengthen our call to show more people the raw power of talent from Europe and beyond’.

The Sunday Business Post Future of Insurance Summit

    The Gibson Hotel, Dublin

The changing landscape of insurance signifies challenging times ahead for the sector. The aftermath of the financial crisis and the continued low interest rate environment, rising claims costs, increased regulation, Brexit, growing consumer demands and progressive digitalisation are all driving the insurance sector to reinvent itself.

It is against this background that this timely event offers attendees a day of discussion and debate on the future of insurance and for predictions on the shape of things to come. Equally, national and international experts will give their opinions on how this traditionally slow moving sector, which is now operating in such a tumultuous market, can adapt, survive, grow and develop new markets and new customers.

Defending Against the Web: Preventing website-based ransomware

    1-2pm

    Online

Ransomware continues to be a hot topic in almost every industry vertical as companies struggle with this evolving issue. Join BSI Espion for a webinar to examine its evolution into an active Web-based threat.

Information is often the most valuable asset organizations possess and are often willing to part with the cash to get it back. This makes Ransomware not just a threat for business but a lucrative revenue stream for hackers to monetize their cyber hacking skills all at the expense of unsuspecting organisations.

This threat has evolved in recent times to a Web-based threat that can penetrate an organization just by a user surfing the net. It is now common place for malicious code to penetrate a system via an out of date website plugin or malicious advertisement on an often legitimate site.

The Web is now no longer a safe place to browse unprotected.

Join BSI Espion and Menlo Security for a webinar to discuss the evolution of web based threats and drive-by downloading, how it works, why it’s effective and the technology solutions such as isolation and sandboxing that companies can implement to safeguard their organisation’s data.

    What’s Covered?
    What is drive-by downloading?
How drive-by downloading has grown and evolved in recent times
How do these threats work and operate?
Steps and methods to defending against web-based threats

Strategies for secure IT and Data Retirement

    11am

    Webinar

With European data protection regulations set to change, the clamour for businesses to ensure compliance is reaching fever pitch. However, the often vague and generic nature of many of the terms in existing legislation means that it is not always clear how a business needs to be positioned in order to prove compliance. This webinar looks at one area of the data protection supply chain that is often neglected and causes confusion: ICT disposal.

In this webinar, Steve Mellings, founder of the ADISA IT Asset Disposal Standard will explore and review the key stages of ICT disposal and identify how internal and external risk should be managed. The webinar will conclude with a comprehensive five-step approach to creating a secure IT asset disposal process.
