Webinar: State of the Phish 2017

    Online

Phishing continues to be one of the fastest growing and malicious threats to the security of industries of every kind – from financial organizations to government contractors to healthcare firms. Today’s savvy phisher manages to evade even the most significant safeguards through carefully planned, socially engineered email phishing attacks and are only getting more advanced.

In fact, the Anti-Phishing Working Group observed more phishing attacks in the first quarter of 2016 than any other three-month span since 2004 and reported a 250 percent increase in phishing websites between March 2015 and October 2016. And people – your internal users – are the largest and most vulnerable point of entry.

In this session, BSI Espion will review high-level findings and insights from our partner Wombat Security’s annual State of the Phish Report that focuses on two different pieces of data.

Anonymous data aggregated across our customer base, involving millions of mock phishing attacks sent through Wombat’s Security Education Platform.
An extensive survey of information security professionals from our database on the different phishing threats they face and how they are protecting themselves.

    You willl learn about:
    1. Where – and how – organisations make themselves most vulnerable to phishing attacks
    2. How and why end users are vulnerable to phishing and how to address the problem
    3. What your peers are doing, whether it is working, and what you should be doing
    4. Data and analysis of click and open rates from millions of simulated email phishing campaigns, including: mobile use in the workplace and who’s most vulnerable, browser and plugin stats, and platform data across industrie

We want to explore the benefits of Government data sets and the use of Eircodes further. We are hosting a Hackathon inviting creative minds, technologists, designers, policy experts and innovators to come together and find ways to make it easier for people to locate and interact with government services. Hackers will be tasked with developing solutions to challenges set on this one day event.

The event will be held on the DCU campus in Glasnevin, Dublin, D09 NR58 on the 10 February 2016 and is partnership with the following State bodies:

    Dare to Know Your Network’

    8.30am-1.30pm
Irish Aviavation Authority, The Times Building, 11-12 D’Olier Street, Dublin 2

Cybersecurity is one of the key talking points in the IT industry in 2017. Many legacy security systems and firewalls are now ineffective defence mechanisms in dealing with the ever-evolving cyber threat landscape.

As organisations prepare to begin the journey towards GDPR compliance, the big question on every IT or Network Manager’s mind is, ‘How do I know my network is secure?’.

Agile Networks is working to help equip you with the ability to answer this question confidently. As part of our ‘Dare to Know Your Network’ campaign with Juniper Networks we can now provide you with a free network security posture consultation through Juniper’s non-invasive network assessment – application and network risk report (ANR) – to help detect potential security risks in your network.

To introduce you to the Juniper Networks Security story and demonstrate how the ANR Report works and what visibility it will give you on your network, we are running a Juniper Networks Security Enablement Day. By attending, you will get:

    – A look at Sky ATP – a cloud based security service that provides advanced malware protection
    – Experience with Junos Space Security Director a comprehensive network security management solution
    – An overview of Juniper’s security solution and future direction
    – A free consultation on your network’s security posture in the form of Juniper’s ANR Report

TechFire: Are cracks in cloud protection leaving your apps vulnerable?

    8-10am

    The Gibson Hotel, Dublin

Hackers are experts in distraction and confusion. They often use one technique to distract from the use of another.

However phishing, encryption malware and DDoS attacks — though garnering much attention — are often poorly understood as being narrowly focused on one aspect of operation. In truth, today’s attacks can target any layer of application availability, leaving organisations vulnerable, irrespective of the strength of their cloud platform — public, hybrid or private.

The first TechFire briefing of 2017 on 1 March will examine the nature of today’s attacks with respect to protecting the entire application infrastructure, across clouds and down to the premises.

from the viewpoint of a high-profile finance application, David Cahill, security strategy and architecture manager at AIB will provide a valuable overview on protecting critical applications in today’s threat landscape.

Expert speakers from F5 Networks will join the panel discussion and show that a complete application protection solution can and must have the ability to protect across all layers of infrastructure and platforms – providing complete protection for the organisation.

Moderator Paul Hearns will lead the discussion. It adds up to a focused two-hour update on current thinking in cloud security: essential information for IT professionals.

From Techno-Hypnosis to Orgies of Activism: On the Nihilism of Technology & the Technologies of Nihilism

Trinity Long Room Hub, Trinity College Dublin

According to Dr Nolen Gertz, Assistant Professor of Applied Philosophy, there is a tendency in technological production called the ‘leisure-as-liberation’ model of technological design. In this lecture he will outline how it has evolved from Aristotle to Marx, to today.

In addition, Gertz aims to demonstrate how Nietzsche would criticise the idea that we could find liberation through leisure and will introduce Don Ihde’s post-phenomenology in order to set up parallels between Nietzsche’s human-nihilism relations and Ihde’s human-technology relations.

How can technologies mediate nihilism and how can nihilism mediate technologies? Dr Gertz will reflect on how rehabilitating the concept of responsibility can help us to move away from this nihilistic leisure-as-liberation model of technological design.

Technomoral Virtues and the Future of Human Flourishing

    Trinity Long Room Hub

New technologies, from digital media and surveillance to robotics and artificial intelligence, are reshaping human institutions in increasingly unpredictable ways. These technologies also transform our daily habits and practices, and through them, our individual and civic character and values.

On local, national and global scales, humanity today faces an uncertain future that demands unprecedented social resilience, civic cooperation and collective moral wisdom in the use of technological power. Nothing less than the survival and flourishing of the human family, and our planet, is at stake. What moral skills and virtues do we need in order to meet the profound political, existential and spiritual challenges driven by these new technologies, and how can we more effectively cultivate them?

Dr. Vallor’s lecture will draw from classical traditions of Aristotelian, Confucian and Buddhist ethics to articulate a new framework for the cultivation of tech nomoral virtues: those qualities of moral and civic character most essential to human flourishing in the digital age.

    Beyond Automation

    Online

Manufacturers constantly face pressure to continuously improve operational performance, avoid sudden breakdowns of machines on the shop floor, minimise production loss, and reduce operational costs. However, the biggest barrier to operational excellence is the non-uniform standards of machines and equipment which are being used on the shop floor.

In this webinar, we are going to address many questions such as:

How can a supervisor monitor machine performance remotely?
How to predict machine failure even before it breaks down?
Is it possible to have all the information on a single canvas which a floor manager can access from anywhere, anytime?
Our experts will also show how IoT can bring value to the shop floor and production line monitoring.

    Agenda:

Pitfalls of traditional manufacturing processes and how to overcome
What Industry 4.0 really is and why it’s a game changer
IT/OT Convergence: The key mantras in smart manufacturing
The role of IoT and data analytics in the manufacturing industry
    Current market trends and value
Smart factory: The evolution not revolution
Demo and review of smart production line monitoring

Build an app with JavaScript and HTML

    Filmbase, Temple Bar, Dublin 2

Join this workshop to learn how to build an App with JavaScript and HTML.

Build a currency conversion service, while introducing ourselves into the realm of Modern JavaScript and Front-End development.

The emphasis is on lean and minimalistic approach. We won’t start with configuring WebPack, rather than that we’ll just start building things. We’ll make best use of standard functionality provided by browsers, while avoiding frameworks like plague. Our focus will be on sound architecture, good programming practices, readability and extensibility.

We aim to introduce the following concepts, technologies and APIs during the workshop:
    * UI components
    * Modern JavaScript with the help of TypeScript compiler
    * The power of native HTML: DOM selectors, Fetch, Local Storage, GeoLocation
    * Browser Polyfills
    * How to consume an API
    * Minimalistic build pipeline with gulp
    * Pragmatic Toolbelt: VSCode, Postman, Browser Developer Tools

    For more information visit http://bit.ly/web-app-workshop.

    Who is this for?
To enjoy the course, you should have some knowledge of web UI development. Ideally, you’re familiar with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, you’ve used some web frameworks and you’ve worked with REST and JSON. We don’t require that you’re an expert in any of these, but you should be able to read and understand the code as we write it during workshop.

Path to GDPR: Practical steps to take

    8.30am – 12pm

Royal College of Physicians, Kildare St, Dublin 2

Ward Solutions outlining the practical steps that organisations need to take to achieve compliance to impending General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation. The seminar follows on from Ward Solution’s booked-out February event, which aimed to raise awareness of the implications of GDPR, and is open to professionals who are eager to identify the specific actions that they need to take over the course of the next 12 months.

GDPR is one of the most significant pieces of legislation of recent times to affect organisations whose core activities involve the processing of data. It will have far-reaching effects on Irish businesses and will set the tone for the majority of conversations about cybersecurity throughout 2017.

At the event, industry experts from Ward Solutions and Fortinet will advise attendees on how to prioritise their information security and compliance activities to develop strategies that can identify and mitigate the risks to personal data putting organisations at significant risk. As well as this, attendees are invited to submit questions which will be answered on the day. This will ensure that the genuine concerns of Irish business owners and professionals when it comes to GDPR are addressed, enabling them to leave the event more certain than ever before about the steps that they need to take next.

Ward Solutions’ 2017 Information Security Report will be launched at the event. Presenting an outline of the results of Ward’s 2017 Information Security Survey, the whitepaper provides insights into Irish organisations’ approach to tackling rising threats, while highlighting the challenges of taking the initial steps towards GDPR compliance. Copies will be provided to all attendees on the day.

    • When is marketing enough and when is sales needed?
    • Is it naive to think that marketing alone is ever enough? Is this the rose-tinted-glasses view of growing a cloud solutions company? Is this just the fear of engaging customers?
    • What solutions, under what conditions, can depend on marketing alone?
    • What mix of marketing and sales should early stage founders be planning in their businesses?
    • Does every business solution of any value need sales? Some personal contact to make it happen?
    • How do growing cloud solution companies assess they have the right mix of marketing and sales to grow their business?

Attendance is free, but booking is essential via http://www.technology-ireland.ie/0/TechBrew.

    Simplifying Office 365 security

A proper Microsoft Office 365 deployment needs direct access to the Internet. This requirement was underscored by Microsoft at the 2016 Ignite conference. Attempting to run Office 365 in a traditional hub-and-spoke network environment will quickly lead to delayed deployments, unplanned outages and users frustrated with subpar performance.

In this websinar BSI Cybersecurity and Information Resilience  will show how to accelerate deployment, deliver a vastly improved user experience and simplify day to day management of Office 365.

    Areas covered:

    – How to best plan and architect an optimized Office 365 network

    – What you need to deliver a fast Office 365 user experience

    – Recommendations and experiences based on over 700 Zscaler Office 365 deployments

Rule based or AI bot: which one is the dark horse for your business?

    Webinar

We all want that our bot should be as responsive as possible to our queries. It won’t be wrong to say that natural language is a fundamental requirement of bot technologies. This in turn establishes a direct relationship between the evolution of bot platforms and natural language processing platforms. With the arrival of cloud platforms, the growth and advancement of natural language processing technologies are being carried forward by giants like Microsoft, Google and IBM.

As a result, most bot developers spend time integrating their frontend bot applications with natural language processing services provided by a different platform.

The webinar will cover the two main natural language processing techniques that are quite popular with bot development. These languages are the distinguishing factor between a rule- based bot and an AI bot.

    Agenda:
    Introduction to bots
Bot frameworks and natural language processing (NLP)
Discussion on natural language programming techniques
Differences between rule-based bot and AI bot
    Demo
    Q&A

Key steps to preventing a ransomware attack

    3-3.30pm

    Webinar

Ward Solutions’ recent survey revealed that one-fifth of Irish businesses have been held to ransom by cybercriminals in the past 12 months. The survey, carried out in association with TechPro, was taken by 170 senior IT professionals and decision makers in Ireland just prior to the recent WannaCry attacks.

As is clear from the survey results and the latest rapidly spreading virus linked to Petya and GoldenEye that ransomware attacks are on the increase in Ireland. Organisations need to act now and put in place a strategic plan to protect their assets. This plan should highlight the necessary precautions that are required to prevent a ransomware attack, what to do if an attack occurs and how to minimise damage in the wake of such an incident.

To give Irish organisations an insight into preventing ransomware attacks Ward Solutions is running an interactive webinar on the topic with in-house experts, Paul Hogan, chief technology officer, and Liz O’Neill, head of operations & Response.

    CIO Roundtable

    12pm

    The Convention Centre, Dublin

Today’s CIO stands in the eye of a digital storm. CEOs and business leaders are struggling to grasp the impact of digital transformation on their organisation. The number of challenges and choices are overwhelming, and the sense of urgency is high.

Who should they trust to guide them on this digital journey?

In principle, the modern CIO should be extremely well positioned to fulfil this role. But the role now requires a broader set of skills and competencies than ever
before. It is no longer sufficient to understand the business, now it is necessary to be able to co-pilot it.

The role of the CIO is being re-invented, and the successful CIO of tomorrow will be connected as never before.

Join Dell EMC for an interactive CIO lunch to discuss how to be the CEO’s co-pilot and a strategic player in the field of business transformation.

An expert speaker, Howard Elias, Dell EMC, will share insights, and a moderated discussion will explore the nuances of the issue.

    Women Reboot Information Evening

St. Peter’s Church, North Street, Centre, Cork

A highly successful pilot programme aimed at reintroducing experienced women to tech jobs after career breaks is expanding nationally and looking for new recruits. The programmes will commence in Dublin and Cork this Autumn.

Women Reboot aims to get so-called ‘returners’ back into full-time roles, through a mix of coaching, online learning, networking skills and work placements in leading tech companies.

Software Skillnet believes that women who are qualified and experienced in the sector – who may have stepped out on a career break to raise families or for other reasons – can create a new pool of talent for companies. With a little support and upskilling, they could be just what tech companies are looking for.
