Vodafone 4G goes live

Vodafone has said that its 4G service, which has been in trial for a number of months, is set to go live on 14 October, in six cities and 23 towns nationwide.

The cities that will go live are Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny. The towns to be covered in this phase are in the South East and South West of the country and include Carlow, Tralee, Wexford, Middleton, Carrigaline, Mallow, Killarney, Enniscorthy, Dungarvan, New Ross, Kenmare, Tullow, Kanturk, Bagnelstown, Thomastown, Millstreet, , Bunclody, Newmarket, Dunmanway, Lismore, Rosslare Harbour, Rosslare Strand and Killorglin.

The company says that the rollout is an essential element of an overall nationwide network enhancement programme to make "Ireland’s leading network even better for all customers".

Additionally, Vodafone said that the programme High Definition Voice services for delivers crystal clear calls and also advanced coverage quality so that all users have an improved indoor and outdoor experience.

The company said that customers living and working in the coverage areas will be able to avail of high speed 4G mobile broadband for €29.99 per month (incl VAT) which includes a 20GB data allowance. Vodafone will also have a 4G smartphone offer for Christmas, with details to be announced shortly.

"From Monday, 4G will be available to consumers and businesses across the largest geographical spread of the country to reach as many customers as possible," said Shelia Kavanagh, head of Mobile Networks, Vodafone Ireland. "Our overall network investment programme, to make Ireland’s leading network even better for all customers, has begun. During the summer the South East was upgraded bringing data everywhere there is voice coverage and now enhancements and upgrades are being delivered to the South West."

In order to avail of Vodafone’s 4G mobile broadband, customers must have a 4G ready device and a 4G SIM. The current range of 4G Mobile Broadband ready devices on the Vodafone network include: K5008Z dongle, R212 Mobile WiFi and Sony Xperia Z tablet.
