UPC Business has launched a new carrier grade Ethernet service that has recently earned Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification from the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).

The service offers an end-to-end network reach with improved multi-site connectivity and interoperability for multi-vendor network environments, says UPC Business. The coverage area is now extended to all European countries where Liberty Global offers its services.

“In today’s business landscape scalable bandwidth and high-performance networks are essential for a rich IT experience, and critical to success,” said Gavan Smyth, vice-president of Business Services, UPC Ireland. “Demand for such services, services that reliably transport all forms of data, is growing exponentially. With the new MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification, we are able to provide significant commercial benefits to our business customers and demonstrate our commitment to the continuous development of our network.”

Carrier Ethernet has many benefits, including accommodation for legacy services, allowing strict Quality of Service controls, as well as tightly integrated service management to meet stringent Service Level Agreements, with competitive pricing and combination with higher service availability and reliability.

UPC Business said that its network is the largest alternative fibre-network in Europe, which includes more than over 300 data centres with around a quarter of a million business locations fibered.
