Threads has more than 175m monthly active users
On 5 July 2023, Meta officially launched its Twitter clone Threads. Just under a year after the launch, Meta chief executive officer, Mark Zuckerberg, let it be known on his own Threads account that the service now has more than 175 million monthly active users.
Threads first launched for Android and iOS apps, but a desktop version soon followed. Initially, you had to have an Instagram account, but that requirement was dropped. Earlier this year, a dedicated Threads app for Windows 10 and 11 was released by Meta.
TechCrunch reports that 63 percent of posts are still text-only posts. However, the company does say that one in four Threads messages contains at least one image.
Incidentally, Threads is still significantly behind X. Owner Elon Musk claims the service now has 600 million monthly active users.
