SRS launches first Open RAN stack for private enterprise 5G networks
Cork-based Software Radio Systems (SRS) has launched srsRAN Enterprise 5G, a portable, full-stack centralised unit and distributed unit software solution for private networks.
Developed in-house to address the specific needs of the private and enterprise 5G market, the open radio access network (Open RAN) solution ensures connectivity across large deployments and support for diverse networks of users both indoors and outdoors.
SrsRAN Enterprise 5G enables customers to quickly deploy powerful, cost-effective private network solutions using off-the-shelf hardware and open interfaces. The solution is not limited to a single compute platform, processor type or instruction set architecture, and is fully portable across architectures including Intel, AMD, ARM, AWS Graviton, Nvidia Grace and NXP Layerscape.
Paul Sutton, CEO, SRS, explained: “The way we build mobile networks is changing. Traditionally, networks have been closed, tightly integrated solutions, limiting diversity and innovation within the ecosystem. By harnessing the opportunity that Open RAN presents, we can build networks in a different way.
“Instead of closed solutions, we can use open interfaces, general-purpose hardware and modern software solutions that are portable, scalable and efficient. This is as true for new enterprise private 5G networks as it is for the continent-wide networks SRS software is already running.
“The new srsRAN Enterprise 5G software stack is a game-changer, enabling customers to deploy powerful, flexible, cost-effective private network solutions using off-the-shelf hardware and open interfaces, and even customising to meet their specific needs.”
