Never too late
“Much of the reseller community has taken the Cloud to heart, now assisting their customers into the waiting arms of MicroSoft or Google or Amazon or some other global powerhouse” Tom_Keane_CMS_Peripherals_web
CMS Distribution : Tom Keane
2015 will see continued growth in all areas of Flash, in SSD, in PCIe, in Arrays and in other emerging form factors. We will continue to see growth in Software Defined solutions. As customers become more comfortable with the concept and more of the players, Suse shortly, release Software Defined Solutions this area is set to grow. Converged Infrastructure solutions will continue to show growth in solving ‘point problems’. The LTO roadmap now encompasses LTO-9 and LTO-10 and we may well see LTO-7 shipping before the end of 2015.

I predict that turkeys will continue to vote for Christmas. Much of the reseller community has taken the Cloud to heart, now assisting their customers into the waiting arms of Microsoft or Google or Amazon or some other global powerhouse. Everything-As-A-Service, their Mail, Docs, Security, Backup, Apps etc, absorbed into the engine rooms of these Monsters. Oh yes, think of the Capex vs Opex arguments in the CFOs office and it’s only a question of time until … the infrastructure refreshes dry up ‘coz all those servers aren’t needed anymore, or the storage, or all that networking kit either.

But, you cry, we’re deploying our own Cloud solutions, we’re doing it in house, we’re not giving our customers away. Seriously, you convince your customers that Cloud is the way to go and then think you have a hope, long-term of competing with the economies of scale that the monsters can bring to bear… No, you don’t. It’s not too late to change.

Front end skills
“We have seen good contract vacancies go unfilled for longer than a month simply because the available contract resource had even better options elsewhere” Tim_Dunne_Web GCS Recruitment Specialists : Tim Dunne, business manager
The technology industry has been vital to the improvement of Ireland’s economic situation and, looking forward to 2015, it seems likely to remain one of the country’s most buoyant markets, with demand for permanent and contract staff rising at an increased rate.

However, most candidates are either engaged in their employment or working on longer term contract assignments. When a contractor becomes available, it has become normal for them to have several options to choose from. We have seen good contract vacancies go unfilled for longer than a month simply because the available contract resource had even better options elsewhere.Whilst increased demand was previously mainly evident in Dublin alone, demand for technology talent has now reached other cities, most notably Limerick and Cork. For professionals willing to work away from home, more options will lead to a chance to increase their financial expectations.

Heightened demand in the cities will also eat into the candidate base in nearby smaller towns, leading to non-city based organisations potentially losing their talent. Should the non-city based companies not be able to keep up financially with their competition, we will end up with key technology hubs within the major Irish cities – and little in between.

In terms of skills, front end development is going to see the greatest growth. With focus very much on e-commerce and user experience, UI developers will be highly sought after and experience in skills such as Angular, Backbone, and other frameworks and libraries will be invaluable to businesses.
