Meta is implementing a series of safety enhancements for young users across all its platforms. A significant change is the restriction of live streaming on Instagram for individuals under 16 years old, unless they have parental consent. Meta will initially roll out the feature in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia. It plans to expand this feature to other regions in the coming months, reports Euronews.

Additionally, Meta is extending existing safety measures for teen accounts on Instagram to both Facebook and Messenger. These measures include setting teen accounts to private by default, preventing contact with strangers through private messages, and limiting exposure to sensitive content, such as videos depicting violence. Furthermore, teens will receive reminders to take a break after 60 minutes of app usage, and notifications will be disabled at bedtime.

Since the launch of Meta’s teen account programme in September, more than 54 million teen accounts have been created. This program was introduced in response to growing concerns about the impact of social media on young people. Meta’s latest updates aim to give parents more control over their children’s online experiences and to create a safer environment for teens using the platforms.
