Irish Manufacturing Research in Mullingar has launched Ideas Made Real, a STEM initiative for the Midlands.

Under the slogan, ’empowering the makers of tomorrow’, Ideas Made Real aims to reshape the perspective of the next generation on innovation, education, and empowerment.

The programme will launch for the 2023-2024 academic year with a pilot involving six schools, including local institutions such as Loreto College, St. Finians College, and Coláiste Mhuire. Future plans include expanding collaborations with educational institutions, tech companies, and research organisations in the upcoming months to further extend its reach and resources.

Barry Kennedy, chief executive officer, Irish Manufacturing Research, said: “It’s not enough to simply have a great idea. The true challenge lies in bringing that idea to life. That’s where Ideas Made Real steps in. We’re here to nurture, support, and empower the makers of tomorrow, ensuring that no brilliant idea goes unrealised.”

Lauren McDermott Smith, programme lead, said: “We believe in the power of ideas, but more importantly, in the power of making those ideas real… It’s time we invest in the makers of tomorrow, providing them with a platform to shine and innovate.”
