The inaugural Tech Week Ireland is taking place from 27 April to 3 May 2014. The week-long festival aims to give students, parents and the public hands-on opportunities to learn about third level and career options in computing and other technology-related fields.

Tech Week is organised by the Irish Computer Society The Irish Computer Society with the support of Science Foundation Ireland’s Discover programme.

Jim Friars, chief executive officer of the Irish Computer Society, said: “Tech Week will give credit to great initiatives already happening, but also encourage new activities and events nationwide. We’re finally putting the ‘T’ in STEM. We have modest targets of 14,000 participants this year growing to 100,000 in three years’ time’.

A range of events planned include digital media and coding competitions; debates; and ‘Tech and go Seek’ which asks the participant to go into their locality and identify technology that they had not noticed before.
