Eir has secured the top spot in fibre broadband market share, surpassing competitors, as per ComReg’s Q3 2023 quarterly key data report.

The report reveals eir’s position in the fibre-to-the-home broadband sector with a 32.7% market share. Additionally, eir maintains its leadership in the overall fixed broadband market, claiming 27.2% of retail subscriber lines.

Eir’s significant investment has seen its network expand to cover more than one million homes and businesses with FTTH. A total of 2 million premises are passed by eir’s combined FTTH and fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) networks, or 90% of premises in Ireland.

Supported by more than €1 billion in investment to date, eir is extending its network to deliver gigabit fibre broadband to 1.9 million premises, covering 84% of homes and businesses in Ireland. This investment also fuels the expansion of eir’s 5G network, offering fast data speeds in 600 towns and cities, along with a €4 million upgrade of its entire network of retail stores.

Susan Brady, managing director of consumer and small business, eir, said: “As a society we have an ever-increasing need for more data and fast connectivity speeds in both our personal and professional lives. And we are proud that more Irish consumers are choosing eir for their fibre broadband. Eir’s purpose is to connect for a better Ireland, and we’re committed to providing seamless connectivity for our customers that enriches lives and drives economic progress.

“Reaching this major milestone in the broadband market has only been achievable with the significant investment, the tireless work of teams and a really strong retail performance in our stores. We recently undertook a significant €4 million investment to transform our key retail stores across the country. We’re seeing significant growth in in-person shopping, despite predictions, and we are committed to retaining a strong presence on city and rural high streets and in retail outlets across the country.”
