Eir appoints Fergal McCann as CTO

Former director of mobile networks moves to senior role

Eir nas named Fergal McCann as its new chief technology officer (CTO), succeeding Guillaume Duhazé who is stepping down from the position later this month.

McCann has more than 27 years of experience in the telecommunications industry in Ireland having joined eir in 2015 as director of mobile networks.

As CTO, McCann will be responsible for advancing the telco’s 5G mobile network rollout, continuing the modernisation of legacy network to retire old technologies and progress the transformation of eir’s data centres to cloud-based solutions.

Prior to joining eir, McCann worked in various technology and finance leadership roles across Esat Digifone, O2 and Telefonica. He holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from DIT and an MBA from UCD Smurfit Business School.

“Technology has transformed the telecommunications industry and will continue to do so for the foreseeable,” said McCann. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity and responsibility to lead eir’s tech transformation alongside my brilliant colleagues. Our core collective focus will be to bring the best of technology to eir’s customers in all the services and solutions we offer.”
