Cloudflare unveils first zero trust SIM for mobile devices
Cloudflare has announced the development of the Cloudflare Zero Trust SIM, which has been designed to secure every packet of data that leaves a mobile device.
The first of its kind, the SIM will allow organisations to connect employee devices quickly and securely to Cloudflare’s global network, directly integrate devices with the firm’s zero trust platform, as well as protect their network and employees.
Cloudflare is also launching Zero Trust for Mobile Operators, a new wireless carrier programme that will let carriers offer their subscribers comprehensive mobile security tools by tapping into its zero trust platform.
In an announcement, Cloudflare co-founder and CEO Matthew Prince said securing mobile devices at scale is currently one of the biggest issues for CISOs.
“Effectively securing mobile devices is hard, and we have been working on this problem since we launched our WARP mobile app in 2019, now we plan on going even further,” he said. “With Cloudflare Zero Trust SIM we will offer the only complete solution to secure all of a device’s traffic, helping our customers plug this hole in their zero trust security posture.”
Cloudflare says Zero Trust SIM will integrate seamlessly with its entire zero trust stack, which will allow security policies to be enforced for all traffic leaving the device. That’s on top of its embedded SIM (eSIM) first approach, which allows SIMs to be automatically deployed to both iOS and Android and then locked to a specific device – ultimately mitigating the risk of SIM-swapping attacks.
Businesses will also be able to deploy the company’s Zero Trust SIM at scale in just minutes, as well as leverage integration with its WARP mobile agent.
Additionally, Cloudflare says it is developing new tools based on the new SIM, which will extend its connectivity and zero trust security perks to the Internet of Things.
“By combining Cloudflare’s award-winning security tools with the largest mobile networks in the world, businesses can be confident that their devices and data are secure without worrying about performance being impacted,” Cloudflare said.
