Price comparison and switching service bonkers.ie has become the Irish first website of its kind to be awarded accreditation by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).

The accreditation recognises bonkers.ie as an accurate and impartial source for energy price and tariff information.

CER chairperson Dermot Nolan said: "Price comparison websites that are easy to use and trusted are a valuable tool in helping customers to get the best tariff deal, thereby delivering cost savings and assisting energy competition. The CER is pleased to confirm that bonkers.ie has met all the requirements to gain accreditation for its price comparison website in the gas and electricity markets."

David Kerr, managing director, bonkers.ie, said: "The CER’s Accreditation Framework is as stringent as any in Europe and means that customers can be sure that information and calculations presented by bonkers.ie are impartial, accurate and up-to-date. 276,000 electricity customers have switched provider since the market was fully deregulated last year, proving householders are very keen to make sure they don’t pay more than they need to."
