Backup without tears from EMC

EMC Corporation has unveiled a backup system which, it claims, makes file management easier and faster. EMC Retrospect Express HD 2 is designed for a stand-alone PC backing up to an internal or external hard drive. Earlier versions of Retrospect Express edition were only available bundled with third-party branded hard drives.

Backing up entails a three-step process: choose what to protect, select a hard drive to store backups to, and set a schedule.

Version 2 uses the same Progressive Incremental and Smart Restore technologies found in earlier editions. The system can be set to capture only data that is new or changed, eliminating the need for time-consuming weekly full backups. If a user accidentally deletes or overwrites a file, a virus attacks, or their hard drive fails, Retrospect restores lost data.
