Having put privacy first with its mail client on macOS, iOS and iPadOS, Apple is taking a similar philosophy to its Sarafi Web browser. Safari 18 will reportedly include a Web Eraser which allows users to delete certain elements of a Web page, such as images and advertisements. When you visit a Web page with previously deleted content, Safari also remembers the information dthat has been modified.

Advertisers may not be happy about it, although it is questionable whether Web Eraser can also automatically turn off all ads, like an adblocker.

Apple previously made decisions that went against marketers’ hair by introducing App Tracking Transparency (ATT for short). a privacy feature on the iPhone and iPad. This requires developers and advertisers to ask permission if they want to track your activity in other companies’ apps and Web sites.

Questions about Web Eraser won’t become clear until developer conference WWDC in June, where iOS 18 will also be unveiled. There, the main focus will be on AI.

Possible new features include a browsing assistant to help you while browsing the Internet and get automatic summarisation of a Web page.

The Calendar app may work with the Reminders app in iOS 18, allowing you to see your reminders in the Calendar app as well. In addition to adding a calendar appointment in the Calendar app, you can also create a new reminder right there.

Several apps are expected to get a total revamp to include AI features.

Maps, Notes, Mail and Photos are widely expected to get a new design and possibly a variety of AI features. In addition, the iPhone home screen in iOS 18 is getting an update.

The Messages app will not escape AI either: there are rumours that Apple wants to use generative AI to automatically complete sentences even better. Apple reportedly plans to automatically generate playlists based on smart features. The same goes for the productivity app iWork. That’s going to help populate from a spreadsheet with interest payments from a mortgage or wealth growth in a savings account, to automatically generating slides for Keynote.

Apple has been keen to stress the next wave of operating systems will represent a “groundbreaking update” and be the “biggest update ever”. We’ll know for sure in June.
