Amazon Kindle smartphone details leak
Amazon’s rumoured Kindle smartphone will reportedly arrive in the second quarter with a 4.7" screen.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the possible Amazon smartphone but new details have been leaked, via Digitimes. According to an industry supply chain source, the Kindle smartphone will use a 4.7" display and be released in the second quarter, which we’re about to enter.
Amazon was originally looking at a 4.3" screen but ditched that idea for a larger display due to an increased demand for larger screens. A lot of smartphones we’ve seen launch this year have a screen 5" or larger.
Digitimes said vaguely that Amazon has been looking at also "enhancing" other specifications of the phone buy gave no details.
Although Amazon is looking towards a second quarter release, the retail giant might not be able to hit this target due to production problems at manufacturing partner, Foxconn. The source wouldn’t confirm if the changes in hardware were the cause of the possible delay.
If the Amazon Kindle smartphone does ever arrive it’s likely to be sold cheaply like Google does with the Nexus 4.
Amazon has made no confirmation that it is making a smartphone but when questioned on the device, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, said: "stay tuned".
