AIB Racing takes third place in F1 in Schools global finals
The 2015 F1 in Schools World Finals took place in Singapore with AIB Racing from St Muredach’s College in Ballina, Co Mayo landing third place in the global competition.
The team of transition year students; Aaron Hannon, Enda Flanagan, Paul Flynn and Robert Grimes, will attend the Malaysian Grand Prix before returning home next week.
The event saw over 250 students comprising 47 teams from 30 countries compete to claim the coveted title of world champions.
In addition to scooping third place with his team, Aaron Hannon was offered a one of only 10 scholarships with the Randstad Williams Engineering Academy.
Ireland was represented by three teams at the competition: AIB Racing; last season’s overall National Champions, Verus Racing from St. Attracta’s Community School, Tubbercurry; and Team Tracktion, from Hex CNC, Roscommon, who were invited to the World Championships as part of a collaboration team, Pact-Racing, with German National Finalists, Team Alliance. Both teams scored first prizes in the social media and team identity awards respectively.
First overall place went to Union Racing International, an F1 in Schools collaboration team representing Germany and USA, while second place went to Mustangs from Portugal.
