Things continue to go insanely fast for chipmaker Nvidia. Sales in the most recent quarter (its first for the financial year 2025) more than tripled from a year earlier. The spectacular growth has everything to do with the breakthrough of artificial intelligence.

Nvidia beat analysts’ expectations, growing even faster than assumed:

  • Revenue in the most recent quarter – from February to April in Nvidia’s accounts – clocked in at $26 billion. A year earlier, it was only $7.2 billion.
  • Or still: Nvidia is growing by 262%. That’s more than a tripling – and even almost a quadrupling – in barely a year’s time.
  • The earnings figures also show unprecedented growth rates: quarterly profits increased sevenfold in one year to nearly $14.9 billion.

Investors reacted enthusiastically, sending the stock higher by 6% in preliminary pretrading, to above the $1,000 mark. The stock price has already nearly doubled since the year began.

Is Nvidia the most important copmany in the world right now? From Meta to OpenAI, the entire tech world depends on Nvidia.

Nvidia is known as the leading provider of chips that enable innovative applications of artificial intelligence (AI).

With many technology companies competing to develop the most advanced AI models, Nvidia is achieving record profits.

The biggest increase in revenue came from sales of processors for data centres, which are essential for the computing power of new AI systems.

As a reminder, Nvidia used to be primarily associated with computing technology for gaming. A year or two ago, gaming sales were still very similar to data center sales. But the discovery that Nvidia’s chips are particularly suited to the computing power required by AI applications made the company the darling of Silicon Valley.
