Airbnb flooded with Paris listings ahead of Olympic games

Supply comfortably outstrips demand as glut of listings appear online

Two-thirds of beds currently advertised on Airbnb in Paris have been made available for overnight stays during this summer’s Olympic games. The question is how much will attendees want to spend and will some of the more high-end listings be taken at all.

The number of available beds in the Paris region increased by half compared to last year. Residents of the city of lights are trying to capitalise on the fact that the Olympics are taking place near their homes and that 15 million visitors are expected.

Supply, however, greatly exceeds demand, according to figures from AirDNA. That’s a data company that turns the world of Airbnb into numbers, trends and statistics.

For example, 3,500 sleeping locations appear to be added every month. Last month, the number in Paris itself stood at 88,800 (up 43% compared to 2023) and in surrounding cities at 82,500 (up 67%).

Two in three sites are still vacant for the period from 26 July to 11 August.

In particular, the more expensive venues, cost: from €500 per night, are still widely available.

It is not clear whether Olympic visitors are still waiting for exact playing dates and locations of their favorite sports and only then book a place to sleep. The playing schedules of far from all sports are known.
